From Father Oliver's DeskThe Third Sunday of Lent. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish”, says Jesus in today's Gospel. These words were addressed by Jesus to his contemporaries, and are addressed to us in today's liturgy. We always begin our celebration of the Eucharist with a call to repentance. Repentance is at the heart of the Gospel.Repent and believe in the Good News. In Lent God gives us grace and calls us to him. It is a season of Grace, it is a season of fasting, abstinence and penance. It is a time to give ourselves completely to God, by making special efforts involving family prayer, taking part in the Mass, visiting the Blessed Sacrament or praying the Stations of the Cross. It is also a time to give ourselves to the needs of others, by making a special effort to help somebody who is poor, sick, old or lonely. During the entire season the liturgy is addressed to the celebration of Easter, both for the Catechumens in their various stages of preparation, and for the faithful, who recall their own baptism and do penance for their sins. To make this season a fruitful one, we will have these spiritual exercises in our parish. Hope you will benefit from them all. Lenten DVD Talk, “Based on St. Paul's letter to the Romans”, every Friday at 7.15pm-8.15pm. Lenten Adoration every Sunday from 5pm to 6pm followed by the Stations of the Cross. Stations of the Cross also on Fridays after the morning Mass. Word of God Renewal session on the 18th March at 7pm. Lenten Anointing Mass on 20th March at 2.30pm. Reconciliation service in the Parish on the 26th March at 7.30pm. Lastly we shall have our Parish Census. I wish you all a fruitful Season of Lent. May it draw us closer to our Lord and may we grow in His love. Fr. Oliver Antao |
